Sania Mirza eliminated from Wimbledon
India’s top ranked woman tennis player Sania Mirza was eliminated from Wimbledon championship by Sorana Cirstea.
Sania is the first Indian woman ever to be seeded in a grandslam tournament. She has won matches at all the grandslam events. When she played the fourth round of the 2005 US Open, it was the farthest an Indian woman has ever reached in a grandslam. In Sep 2006, she notched up victories against three top 10 players, Martina Hingis, Svetlena Kuznetsova and Nadia Petrova,
Sania is the only Indian woman to win a WTA singles title, Hyderabad Open Finals, in February 2005. She has played in three other finals as well.
Sorana Cirstea defeatedly Sania rather easily 4-6 4-6 in second round itself. 28th seeded Sorana Cirstea played a beautiful game against Sania and did not allow her to play her natural shots.
Hyderabadi lass Sania Mirza played mostly from the baseline but struggled to keep her booming strokes within the court. The inability to win points on serve added to the woes of the unseeded Indian against an opponent ranked as high as 27th in the world.
